New York State Governor Kathy Hochul has implemented a mandatory burn ban for all of New York City, Long Island, Westchester County, Putnam County, Rockland County, Orange County, Ulster County and Dutchess County due to high fire danger risk
The Outdoor burn ban, effective from now and up to and including March 16th, 2025 when open burning of debris and brush is banned until May 14th, 2025 throughout all of New York State.
The regional burn ban prohibits the ignition of outdoor fires for purposes of brush and debris disposal, Notify NYC posted to social media Sunday.
According to the ban issued in Hochul's news release Sunday, uncontained campfires and open fires used for cooking, are also prohibited.
"Backyard fire pits and contained campfires less than three feet in height and four feet in length, width, or diameter are allowed, as are small, contained cooking fires," the ban reads. |
