Change Your Clock - Change/Check Your Batteries
Email Print RSS Facebook Twitter RSS

November 2, 2024

Every fall, fire districts, departments and companies across the country work to remind people of the simple, life-saving habit of changing/checking the batteries in smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors when setting the clocks back for daylight saving time.

The National Fire Protection Association reports that more than 70% of smoke alarms which failed to operate had missing, disconnected or dead batteries. This reinforces how important it is to take this time each year to check smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.

The Pleasant Valley Fire District would like to remind you of the importance of batteries not only in smoke alarms, but also the full range of safety devices that help keep us safe, secure and comfortable in our homes.

Checking and changing your smoke detector batteries is easy to do—the hard part is actually remembering to do so, which is why this handy pairing with Daylight Saving Time is ideal. With DST ending, here's your friendly reminder to change those batteries, along with smoke detector tips and information to keep them properly maintained year-round.

Please remind your friends and family to change/check the batteries in their smoke and carbon monoxide detectors as we set our clocks back one hour on November 2nd.
