Today, the Pleasant Valley Fire District stands together with other fire districts, departments and companies across the state in mourning the death of FDNY Rescue Company 2 firefighter and an Ex-Chief of the Islip Fire Department in Suffolk County, New York, William (Billy) P. Moon II, who suffered a serious head injury in the quarters of Rescue 2 in Brooklyn and passed away today from his injuries.
Just before noon on Monday, December 12, while preparing for a drill inside his firehouse – Rescue Company 2 – located at 1815 Sterling Place in Brooklyn, Firefighter Moon fell approximately 20 feet and suffered a serious head injury. He was immediately treated for his injuries by his fellow Firefighters and was then rushed by FDNY EMS to Kings County Hospital in critical condition.
Words cannot express the pain they must feel at this time.
He spent his life helping others, at the FDNY, and on Long Island, as a volunteer Fire Chief. Firefighting was in his bones, and he embodied the spirit and passion of firefighting. He was passionate about organ donation, and just as he saved countless lives working out of the firehouse, he will continue to save lives in his passing with the donation of his organs.
We wish extend our deepest condolences to the FDNY and Islip Fire Department and to your brothers, family and friends. You are all in our thoughts and prayers.
We pray you all heal together and never forget his ultimate sacrifice. God Speed brother!
May he Rest In Peace... |
