Members of the Pleasant Valley Fire District attended the Dutchess County Trade Fair at Arlington High School, actively recruiting new volunteer firefighters. Assistant Chief Mark Luby, an Arlington High School alumni, emphasized the widespread need for volunteer firefighters throughout Dutchess County. "It's very important that we get the message out that volunteer firefighters are needed, not just in Pleasant Valley but all throughout Dutchess County," he said. Current Arlington High School students and firefighters, junior Daniel Cronk and senior Billy Cummings as well as proposed firefighter, Alumni Dominick Cussano, volunteered their time to share their experiences. Firefighter Cronk stated, "It was a very important and enjoyable night, stressing the importance of being a volunteer firefighter to people that may not know of the volunteer fire service." Firefighter Cummings added, "Joining the Pleasant Valley Fire District has been a wonderful life experience. It's given me responsibility and direction in my life...I love it!" He highlighted that he had no prior knowledge with the fire service before joining. EMS Lieutenant Kelsie Nau, EMT and also an Arlington High School alumni, echoed the event's success. "It was a great turnout," Nau said. "It's very important that we are here, and I was very happy that three applications were handed out during the fair." |
