In Memory Of Firefighter Jason Arno - Buffalo Fire Department |
March 2, 2023 | |
Today, the Pleasant Valley Fire District stands together with other fire districts, departments and companies across the state and country in mourning the death of Buffalo firefighter Jason Arno, who died inside a burning commercial building in downtown Buffalo, New York, on Wednesday, where a fire and sudden fireball sent flames and smoke billowing into the street. The 37 year old firefighter was reported missing shortly after crews arrived at the building, which held a theatrical costumes shop. The situation quickly deteriorated and firefighters had to evacuate to escape the collapsing interior. Video recorded by bystanders showed teams of firefighters outside the building being knocked over and enveloped in a cloud of ash, then flailing to regain control of spraying hoses. Buffalo Fire Commissioner William Renaldo said the fireball was likely caused by a backdraft, which he said occurs when oxygen is “sucked into the building and then blown back.” City officials remembered 3 year veteran Jason Arno as a hero and bright young man during a Thursday afternoon press conference. We wish to extend our deepest condolences to the Buffalo Fire Department and to your brothers, sisters, family and friends. You are all in our thoughts and prayers. We pray you all heal together and never forget his ultimate sacrifice. God Speed brother! May he Rest In Peace... |
